Good machined-component design starts with the material. Leaded and free-cutting grades such as C93200 and C54400 machine quickly; aluminum bronzes machine more slowly and are harder on tooling.
Design points
- Select the grade for the function first (wear, load, corrosion), then check machining implications.
- Allow practical machining stock on rods, plates and castings.
- Specify only the tolerances and finishes the function needs – tight tolerances add time and cost.
- Avoid sharp internal corners and abrupt section changes that cause stress or casting problems.
- Define inspection and documentation needs on the drawing or inquiry.
Sharing your drawing
Upload a drawing (PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP/IGES) with quantity, grade and application. Capability, tolerances and lead time are confirmed by the company for each drawing.
