Bronze material family
Bearing Bronze
Leaded cast bronze with good anti-friction behaviour for plain bearings and bushings.
Overview
Bearing bronzes combine a tin-bronze matrix with dispersed lead to provide embeddability, anti-seizing behaviour and tolerance of marginal lubrication. C93200 (SAE 660) is the most widely used grade.
Cast bar, tube and sand castings are machined into bushings, thrust washers and wear parts. Load, speed, lubrication and shaft hardness all need to be considered when selecting a bearing material.

Selection guide
- Moderate-load plain bearings: C93200.
- Heavier loads or impact: consider aluminum bronzes (C95400, C95500).
- Wet or corrosive service: confirm environment; tin bronzes (C90500) or aluminum bronzes may be better.
- Lead-restricted applications: lead-free alternatives to be reviewed.
Typical applications
- Plain bearings and bushings
- Thrust washers and wear rings
- Pump and machinery bearings
- Gear and slide components under moderate load
- General engineering wear parts
