Bronze fittings
Marine Bronze Fittings
Bronze fittings for sea-water and marine systems, with a focus on aluminum and nickel-aluminum bronze grades.
Overview
Marine and sea-water piping places particular demands on materials: chlorides, flow velocity, erosion-corrosion, galvanic effects and biofouling all play a role. Bronze fittings have a long record in marine service, but performance depends on the exact alloy and the service conditions.
This page outlines the main considerations; it does not claim that any grade is suitable for every marine application.

Marine and seawater-related applications
Typical uses include sea-water cooling lines, bilge and ballast systems, fire-fighting lines, deck equipment and offshore auxiliary piping.
Potential nickel-aluminum and aluminum bronze grades
Nickel-aluminum bronze (C95800) is the grade most associated with sea-water service. Aluminum bronzes (C95400, C95500) are used in demanding duties, and tin-bronze / valve-bronze grades are used in less aggressive marine auxiliary systems.
- C95800 – nickel aluminum bronze
- C95500 / C95400 – aluminum bronze
- C92200 – steam / valve bronze (marine auxiliary systems)
Corrosion resistance and service environment
Corrosion behaviour depends on alloy, microstructure, flow velocity, temperature, aeration and the galvanic couple with neighbouring metals. Velocity limits and design rules vary by alloy and system.
Fluid compatibility
Sea water, fresh water, fuel, lubricants and cleaning agents have different effects. State all fluids in the inquiry.
Inspection and traceability requirements
Marine projects often require class-approved materials, certificates and traceability to heat or cast. Which approvals and documents can be provided must be confirmed with the company.
- Material test certificate
- Traceability to batch / cast
- Third-party inspection (if required and available)

Frequently asked questions
Is every bronze grade suitable for sea water?
No. Suitability depends on the exact alloy, design and operating conditions, and is not guaranteed for any grade by this website.
Do you supply class-approved fittings?
No approval is claimed here. State any class or authority requirement and the company will confirm.
What fluid velocity limits apply?
Limits are alloy- and design-specific; check with the system designer and the company.
