Aluminum Bronze
C95400 — Aluminum Bronze (9C, 10–11.5% Al)
The general-purpose cast aluminum bronze: high strength, excellent wear resistance and good corrosion resistance for heavy-duty parts.
Grade overview
C95400 is the workhorse of the cast aluminum bronzes. With roughly 10–11.5% aluminum and 3–5% iron it offers a combination of strength, hardness and wear resistance that tin bronzes cannot match, and good resistance to corrosion in many fresh water, brackish water and mild process environments.
It is widely used for heavy-duty bushings, gears, valve parts, flanges and pump components. In the as-cast condition it is a robust, economical choice; heat treatment can increase strength further for suitable applications.
Alloy family and identification
Cast copper-aluminum-iron alloy, UNS C95400, sometimes called 9C aluminum bronze. Differs from C95500 mainly by its nickel content.

Corrosion and wear considerations
Good resistance to corrosion in many fresh-water, brackish and mild chemical services, and strong resistance to wear and galling. In sea water, nickel-aluminum bronzes such as C95800 are generally preferred; suitability must be confirmed per service.
Machinability and fabrication
Machinable but harder on tooling than leaded bronzes; use rigid setups and suitable tools. Welding and repair require qualified procedures. Heat treatment is possible for higher strength.
